What you get on every page

Each calculator page shows the formula in plain notation with the published source behind it, a worked example you can check by hand (checked against the number the calculator itself prints), an explanation of what the number means, the mistakes people make with it, the conditions the result stops applying, and the date it was last updated. Guides explain the idea behind a calculation before you use a tool, and end by linking to the calculator that does the arithmetic.

Who writes it

Everything on this site is written and reviewed by one of two people. Dr. Dinesh A. Nagegowda is a plant molecular biologist and Chief Scientist at CSIR-CIMAP; he covers the lab, genetics, gardening, forestry, ecology and cell biology pages. Dr. Chyrle Bonk is a mixed-animal veterinarian in rural Idaho; she covers the animal pregnancy, dog, cat, livestock and other animal pages. Profiles, education and verification links are on the editors page. Questions about a specific number belong with that page's editor; general questions go to the address below.

Corrections

Every page shows its formula, its source and its update date, so errors are easy to spot. Report anything that does not reconcile with its cited source on the corrections page: corrections are published in place and the page date is updated.

How the site is funded

Biology Calculator is free to use and funded by advertising. If you're reading this before ads are live, none are running yet; once they are, this paragraph and the privacy page will name exactly what's shown and what it loads. Any affiliate link will be labelled where it appears, with no exceptions.
